Welcome to the Headquarters of General George H. Thomas, Camp #19,
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

We meet on the third Tuesday of every month (excluding June, July, August), 6:30 PM, at the Manheim Township Public Library in Overlook Campus, 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601. All men, age 14 and over, with interests in the Civil War, are invited to attend. Juniors from age 6 to 13 are also welcome. We occasionally invite speakers to give talks on subjects related to our interests.


Our Mission: By the purpose and objects of our Constitution, we pledge ourselves to commemorate our fathers' deeds; to render loyal service to our Country, and to promote the maintenance of unqualified American citizenship with respect for and honor to the flag.

Camp Officers: Our Camp leadership consists of our currently elected and appointed officers for 2010, our committees and organization, and also our Past Camp Commanders.

Camp History: Maj Gen George H. Thomas Camp #19 of the SUVCW, was originally sponsored by George H. Thomas Post #84 of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). Many men from Lancaster served under General Thomas, "The Rock of Chickamauga" for whom we are named.

2010-2011 Events Calender: Our Memorial Day services are held at he G.A.R. plot in Lancaster Cemetery, off New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA normally on the traditional Memorial Day (May 30).

The Battlefield Dispatch: Our monthly newsletter is written and edited by Brother John Heine. Archive copies from prior years are also available for review.

Patriotic Instruction


Maj. Gen. George H. Thomas: The "Rock of Chickamauga" (July 31, 1816 – March 28, 1870) was a native Virginian, a graduate of West Point, and veteran of the Mexican War. As the war clouds gathered in 1860 and officers resigned their commissions, he chose not to renounce his oath and remained a United States Army officer, becoming one of the principal commanders in the Western Theater of the war. Camp Roll of Honor: Share our humble respect and honor for our ancestors who served to preserve the Union. You will find not only the names but biogtraphies, pictures, and also the regiments and their histories.

Event Reports & Photos: Where have we been? What have we done? This is a collection of print and photography of the many past events in which we and our associated organizations have participated.

Monuments & Memorials: In stone, in bronze, in namesake, we continue to honor those who saved the Union throughout Lancaster County and nearby. This is a living testimonial in sight and sound.

Ceremonies & Rituals: The purpose of this page is to provide suggestions, assistance and alternatives for the various observances, ceremonies and ritualistic work in which the Camp may be engaged; and of course instruction for those interested in the historical traditions that mark our National Holidays.

Last Bugle Call: In Memorium, noble sons of nobles ancestor who have fallen. Here we honor our brothers who have departed our ranks.
